Google Pay lets buyers pay with a card saved in their Google account. It appears on Ionic’s hosted payment pages for one-time payments. Embedded checkout and subscription sign-ups show the card form.

Turn on Google Pay

There is nothing to register or host. Google Pay depends on your payment processing, so ask Ionic support to confirm it is available for your account.

What buyers see

The Google Pay button appears above the card form for one-time payments with a total above zero. The buyer picks a card in Google’s payment sheet, which asks for the same details your checkout collects, such as email, phone, and shipping address. Google Pay payments are not saved for future use.

After the buyer pays

A Google Pay payment completes like a card payment, so there is no extra code to write. Hosted checkout and payment links send checkout.session.completed, and a paid hosted invoice sends invoice.paid. The Charge shows google_pay in payment_context.wallet.

Test Google Pay

Google does not offer test cards for Google Pay, so test with a Google account that has a real card saved. In test mode, no money moves. Open a test-mode payment link or checkout session to see the button.
